New City School 2011–2015 Approved Charter

The official, district-approved charter for The New City School's final term (July 1, 2010 – June 30, 2015). 105 pages.

Acknowledgment

It is with tremendous gratitude that we submit for renewal the 2010 New City School charter to the Long Beach Unified School District. Ten years ago the leadership of California's fourth largest school district granted our first charter, and our partnership began. From that day forward we embarked on a journey to provide an excellent education option to families in the center of our city.

While our mission remains nearly unchanged, our school has grown and matured. In 2000, our oldest students were nearing age 9. This year we are promoting our fifth class of 8th graders, and we now operate one of the district's options for college preparatory high schools.

Our education program, learning goals, and the methods by which we measure our students' progress toward them, have grown with us. We have closely examined our record of achievement in education and service to this community, and we are prepared to continue forward under the expert guidance of our New City Public Schools Board of Directors, the Board and leaders of the Long Beach Unified School District, and the people we proudly serve. We look forward to the next ten years of partnership.
